About Connie’s Preserves

Connie’s Preserves is a division of Prater & Associates, Inc. Founded in August 2016 by Georgia native Connie Prater, this multi-faceted company offers a variety of services centered around Prater’s unique mix of skills. You might not think that jams and jellies have anything to do with media, marketing and publicity, but Prater effortlessly goes from one to another – sometimes during the course of the same day!

The media:
Prater is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist with nearly 30 years of experience writing and editing for print and online media.

She has a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. and a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

She was the program manager, event planner and promoter for the March 19-21, 2017, Farmers Fair and Expo hosted by the 100 Black Men of SE Georgia. The event drew 168 people for workshops and seminars on agriculture and farming. Her successful media placement record is a testament to her professionalism and experience in the news business.

The preserves:
Some who meet Prater selling her jams and jellies at farmer’s markets don’t believe that she is the chef behind the dozens of colorful jars on display.

Why? Canning and preserving is an art form that was more common among women of older generations. Today, fewer people are canning and many of the recipes from generations ago are being lost as our senior family members pass on.
Prater wants to preserve the tradition and give customers a taste of something few can find in the grocery store: that authentic, homemade taste without additives and preservatives.

She wants those fortunate enough to have had a canning grannie to recall that taste when they sample her products. They truly “Taste like grandma made it.”

Everything else:
In addition to media and canning and farming, Prater is an active member of her community. She leads the adult Sunday School class at her church and has been a key contributor to several community events. She is a key member of the Prater Music Festival planning committee, which hosts an annual event in Ocilla, Ga., that honors her late uncle, Dave Prater of the R&B singing duo Sam and Dave.
